CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — The court martial of a Marine corporal charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of a comrade in Iraq is under way at Camp Pendleton.
Cpl. Douglas Michael Sullivan, 23, is charged with manslaughter in the death of Lance Cpl. Kristopher Warren.
Authorities said Sullivan and Warren were working in a combat operations center in Western Iraq on Nov. 9, 2006, when Sullivan shot Warren in the back of the head.
Authorities said Sullivan picked up another Marine’s rifle from a rack, took the weapon off safety, sighted the scope on Warren and pulled the trigger.
Sullivan of Hamilton, Mass., has said it was an accident.
Sullivan faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of manslaughter in the shooting death.
