A National Guard soldier caught with military ammunition at the Indianapolis International Airport will serve his seven-day confinement at the Johnson County Jail.
Pvt. Patrick C. Mahler, 24, Henderson, Nev., received the sentence last week after a court martial. The Nevada Army National Guard member was found to be carrying prohibited ammunition through a security checkpoint in June.
The Transportation Security Agency found that Mahler was carrying 7.62 rifle rounds, .50-caliber ammunition and a 40-mm mortar training round when he passed through a checkpoint to take a flight home after training at Camp Atterbury with the 1st Squadron, 221st Cavalry, of the Nevada Guard.
