Court Martial Attorney – Pre-court-martial hearing held for Fort Rucker soldier

Fort Rucker, AL- Investigating officer Cayla Slusher heard testimony Wednesday in the involuntary manslaughter case of U.S vs Specialist Dedrick Fisher.

Article 32 hearing is a precursor to a general court-martial, one that Fisher would have to face later this year, if the investigating officer feels there was enough evidence to show he played a role in the death of his five-month old son.

There were four witnesses in Wednesday hearing, two appeared and were actually sworn in over the telephone.

Fort Rucker Criminal investigation Division Chief Raymond Massey testified that in Fishers sworn statement last November he indicated that he had shaken the baby.

Birmingham physician and child abuse expert at Children’s Hospital, Melissa Peters, said when she examined young Dedrick Fisher Jr. that his injuries were consistent with that of severe inflicted brain trauma, something that can happen when shaking a baby.

After testimony Wednesday the investigating officer over the hearing Cayla Slusher will make a final report once she hears more testimony and gets a final autopsy report from the Department of Forensic Sciences.

The military does not have minimums on sentences it’s only determined off of the maximum and the maximum on involuntary manslaughter is 10 years.
